This year marks the 450th anniversary of the death of the famous Tuscan painter and art historian
Giorgio Vasari (Arezzo, 1511–Florence, 1574). The celebrations will feature the complete –and until recently unthinkab le–reconstruction of the Vasari ceiling for Palazzo Corner. In the late 18th
century, the ceiling was broken up and dispersed. In the 1980s, the Italian Ministry of Culture and a
number of Venetian institutions, first and foremost the Gallerie dell’Accademia, undertook an
initiative to track down and reacquire its component parts in Italy and abroad.
